The Yanko Merino Stud, I.E. Cameronn & Co. — last updated 11th August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how I.E. Cameron & Co. (ABN 88 079 422 394, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information in connection with our website www.theyanko.com (the Site), our ram and sheep sales, and our mailing list.
We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. What personal information we collect
Depending on how you interact with the Site, we may collect:
Contact details — name, email address, postal address and phone number, for example when you join our mailing list or make an inquiry about a ram or sheep sale.
Sale and inquiry information — details you provide about your interest in a sale, such as the animals or lots you are inquiring about, delivery/pickup preferences, or questions you ask us.
Correspondence — records of emails, phone calls or messages you send us.
Technical and browsing information — such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed and time spent on the Site, collected automatically through standard website analytics.
We do not seek to collect sensitive information through the Site, and we ask that you not send us sensitive information.
2. How we collect personal information
We generally collect personal information directly from you, including when you:
Subscribe to our mailing list via the Site;
Submit an inquiry or contact form on the Site;
Email, call or otherwise correspond with us about a ram sale, sheep sale, or general inquiry; or
Browse the Site (technical information collected automatically).
We will only collect personal information by lawful and fair means, and only where it is reasonably necessary for, or directly related to, one of our functions or activities.
3. Why we collect and use your information
We collect and use personal information for purposes including:
Responding to inquiries about our ram sales, sheep sales, or the property;
Managing and administering sales, including communicating with buyers before and after a sale;
Sending our annual newsletter and advertising material (such as sale catalogues and updates) to people who have subscribed to our mailing list;
Maintaining and improving the Site, including understanding how visitors use it; and
Complying with our legal obligations.
We will not use or disclose personal information for a purpose other than the purpose for which it was collected, unless you would reasonably expect us to use or disclose it for that other purpose, you have consented, or we are otherwise required or authorised by law.
4. Mailing list and marketing communications
If you provide your email address and/or contact details to join our mailing list, we will use them to send you our annual newsletter, sale advertising and related updates about The Yanko Merino.
Every marketing email we send will include a clear way to unsubscribe. You can also opt out at any time by contacting us using the details in section 11. We will process unsubscribe requests promptly and in accordance with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
We will not add you to the mailing list unless you have actively subscribed, provided your details to us for that purpose, or otherwise consented (for example, by asking to be kept informed about future sales).
5. Disclosure of your information
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose personal information to:
Service providers who help us run the Site or manage our mailing list (for example, website hosting or email service providers), where this becomes applicable;
Regulatory or law enforcement bodies where required or authorised by law.
Where we engage a third-party service provider to handle personal information on our behalf, we take reasonable steps to ensure they only use it for the purposes we authorise and handle it securely.
6. Overseas disclosure
We do not currently disclose personal information to recipients located outside Australia. If this changes — for example, if we begin using an overseas-hosted email marketing or website platform — we will update this policy to identify the likely countries involved and the safeguards that apply, as required by APP 8.
7. Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. This includes limiting access to personal information to those who need it, and using reasonably secure methods to store contact and mailing list records.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will comply with our obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where required.
8. Cookies and website analytics
The Site may use cookies or similar technologies to collect non-identifying technical information about visits to the Site, such as pages viewed and referring website addresses. This helps us understand how the Site is used and improve it. You can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies, though this may affect some functionality of the Site.
9. Accessing and correcting your information
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. To make a request, please contact us using the details in section 11. We may need to verify your identity before providing access, and there may be limited circumstances in which we are permitted to refuse a request (in which case we will explain why).
10. Complaints
If you have concerns about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first using the details below so we can try to resolve the issue. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
